Why some lamps just die
Here is the thing about mercury discharge: it’s all about the glass. A lot of cheap tubes use low-grade quartz that basically blocks the UV light from getting out. We use high-transmittance fused quartz. Why? Because we want those photons hitting your substrate, not getting trapped in the glass. We also put a lot of focus on the electrodes. Most lamps “die” because the inner walls darken—which is basically just gunk building up—long before the mercury is actually gone. We spec our electrodes to stop that sputtering. It keeps the tube clear and the light strong.
The heat struggle
High wattage means high heat. Simple as that. You want the speed, but if your cooling fans can’t keep up, you’re looking at thermal shock. To fix this, we’ve tweaked the tube dimensions and gas pressure to keep the arc stable. But a word of warning:Check your ballast. If your voltage doesn’t match the rated specs, you’ll fry the electrodes. It’s a quick mistake that leads to replacing your tubes twice as often as you should. Get the voltage right, and the lamps will actually live their full life.
